2001 CENTENARY YEAR
Championship Show
Show Report
from our Club Correspondent - Lynne Miller
This year was a very special show for the Red, Cream & Tortoiseshell Society (RCT) as 2001 marked the Centenary year of the formal ratification of the Society. Over the years the Society has gained the reputation of holding friendly, well supported shows, exhibiting quality cats of our breeds. This year was no exception and top marks go to Pat Richards, our Show Manager and Sue Denny, Assistant Show Manager who had everything running like clockwork and as usual, Bunny Hare provided excellent hospitality to our judges and stewards.
Of course, the day would not have been a success without our much-loved cats. Nearly all our colours were represented across the 165 exhibits with some unusually high entries in the red neuter (male) longhairs, blue-cream adult shorthairs, cream kitten (male) shorthairs and the black/chocolate/lilac tortoiseshell kitten shorthairs. It was a very successful day for many of the cats, as the award of the certificate saw them gaining their titles. Particular successes (and these are just a few) were our overall Best in Show, Sorrentina Black Jack (1) who was made up to Champion and our overall Best British, Ch & Pr Draconis Derfel Cadarn (31a), who became a Grand Premier on the day.
Pr Chloebel Moonand Sixpence (13) also became a Grand Premier, she is one of the oldest cats, if not the oldest on the show bench at 11 years while our 'old retainer,' Gr Pr Millcoombe Admiral Buoy (4), was awarded the Grand Premier certificate for the 7th year in a row. Congratulations must also go to Kim Gough, who almost swept the board by taking Best British Kitten and Best British Adult, and 'Stuart' who was the overall winner of the non-pedigree section.
As this was our Centenary year, the Society awarded special prizes of crystal
paperweights to those receiving Grand and Reserve Grand certificates and decanters
to the Best-in-Show winners. All kittens received a cat toy and for our exhibitors
there was wine and cake. The cake was cut with great skill by Alison Ashford,
our Vice President, and was adorned by our logo (I wish I could do icing like
that!).
